Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that science should primarily improve people’s lives, and you support this with relevant examples from medicine, transport, communication, automation and weather forecasting. The discussion also recognises a counterpoint by mentioning atomic bombs and harmful chemicals, which helps address the question of science’s aims. However, some examples are asserted rather than explained—for instance, the claim that a Japanese earthquake was predicted and saved lives needs clarification and reliable detail. The opening repeats the prompt’s position without establishing a developed line of reasoning, and the conclusion mainly restates your view. Develop the reasons behind your examples and explain why improving lives should take priority over other scientific aims. The response meets the stated length requirement; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable overall structure, moving from an introduction to examples and then a conclusion. Paragraphing also groups related material, particularly the discussion of technology and everyday benefits. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes list-like: the paragraph beginning “In the current era” moves from mobile phones to internet advice and then medical treatment without clearly connecting these points. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Nowadays” and “For example” are used, but relationships between ideas are not always made explicit, and “This thing” has an unclear reference. The conclusion repeats earlier claims rather than drawing the main reasons together. Organise each body paragraph around one central reason, then use clearer referencing and transitions to show how each example supports it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “diagnosed and treated,” “automation,” “efficiency” and “weather conditions,” so the reader can follow the main subject. There are also attempts at more specific terms such as “atomic-bomb” and “chemical.” However, word choice, collocation and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “This easy” appears to mean “essay,” “no dough” should be “no doubt,” and “earth-quick” is not the intended term. Phrases such as “different sides of world” and “different stuff” are vague or unnatural. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, and choose precise terms rather than informal placeholders. This will make your examples sound clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Automation, a part of science which help people achieve more production…” and a conditional idea in “If science do this stuff…”. These attempts show some range, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction recur. For example, “science help” needs subject–verb agreement, “a american company” has an article error, and “If science do” should use the correct verb form. The opening sentence, “This easy will describes…,” is also difficult to interpret because its structure is faulty. Some sentences communicate their meaning despite these errors, but greater control is needed. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then review agreement, articles and conditional forms.
