Student answer (Band 6.0)

Since the starting of civilization human are trying to improve their lifestyle and in this regard they are applying different scientific methods to address different issues. Therefore the primary aim of science is nothing but to improve the peoples lives and I am completely agreed with this statement.

It is true that human started to invent something when they feels the necessity of it. For example, when they found it is hard to go a long distance by walking they invent wheel which is considered the most important invention of human civilization. Since the development of wheel the quality of human life significantly increased. In past days virus and becteria frequently attacked human. Therefore different scientist and doctors created vaccines to prevent the deadly attck of virus and becteria which is only possible with the help of their advance scientific knowledge.

Apart from this inventions if we take a look to the any small or large scientific project we will find that the reason behid this development is to enhance the quality of human life. For example in in modern cities large shopping malls, new traffic technologies, modern bus and cars introduce to improve human exeperience. Also, govenrment investing huge amount of budget in many scientific projects for scientist for developing new techlogies for mankind. Even if we look at the weapons and ammunations which is considered the dark side of scientific developments are used to protect human from terrorist and other life threatening incident.

In conclusion human used his scientific knowledge because he wanted to improve his lifestyle and I consider it should be used for this reason only.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that science should improve people’s lives, and the conclusion returns to this view. The examples of the wheel and vaccines are relevant and show how scientific developments can address human needs. You also acknowledge weapons as a potentially harmful aspect of science, which adds some breadth to the response. However, several points are asserted rather than explained: the examples of shopping malls, transport technologies and government investment are listed without showing clearly how they demonstrate science’s most important aim. The claim that weapons are used to protect people also needs qualification. Develop fewer examples with more explanation of their benefits and limitations to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present examples, and a conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “Apart from this,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the progression within the second body paragraph is not always clear: shopping malls, transport, government funding and weapons are grouped together without a strong explanation of how each point builds on the previous one. References such as “this development” and “this reason” could also be more precise. Organise each body paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it, using transitions that show the relationship between ideas rather than simply introducing another example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “scientific methods,” “vaccines,” “scientific knowledge,” and “scientific projects,” and the main ideas remain understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “life-threatening incident.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “becteria,” “attck,” “behid,” “exeperience,” and “techlogies.” Some collocations are unnatural, for example “virus and bacteria attacked human” and “improve the peoples lives.” Repetition of “human,” “improve,” and “scientific” also limits flexibility. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, and vary repeated terms with precise alternatives such as “people,” “quality of life,” and “scientific research.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “Even if we look at the weapons…” and a relative clause in “which is considered the most important invention.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles and plurals. For example, “human are trying” needs a plural subject such as “humans,” while “when they feels” should be “when they feel”; “they invent wheel” also needs an appropriate past-tense verb and article. In “which is considered,” the reference to “weapons and ammunition” creates an agreement problem. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread sentence by sentence while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
