Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that science should improve people’s lives, and the conclusion returns to this view. You address the topic with relevant examples from medicine, agriculture, environmental issues, technology and education. This breadth, together with a consistent stance, gives the response a solid foundation. However, the examples are often listed rather than explained: for instance, you mention dialysis and blood-pressure machines but do not show in detail how they improve outcomes. The environmental point is also brief, and the essay does not consider whether science may have other important aims or potential drawbacks. Developing a few examples more fully and clarifying why improving lives should be science’s primary aim would make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs covering different areas, and a conclusion. The sequence from medicine and agriculture to technology and education is generally easy to follow, and connectors such as “Furthermore,” “In addition” and “To conclude” help signal movement between points. At times, however, the progression feels like a list of examples rather than a connected argument. The repeated use of “science” and “also” makes links mechanical, while some transitions are unclear—for example, the shift from environmental problems to technology. Paragraphing is present, but ideas within paragraphs would be easier to follow if each paragraph had a clear central claim and examples were grouped and linked to it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use topic-related vocabulary such as “agriculture,” “global warming,” “pollution,” “online learning” and “projectors,” which helps communicate the range of fields discussed. However, the vocabulary is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less precise, including “medicinces,” “quaility,” “enviromental” and “conveniate.” Some phrases are also unnatural or repetitive, such as “science play its role” and “make lives easy and better.” Aim to use more accurate collocations and vary repeated expressions; for example, describe science as “contributing to improvements” or “enhancing quality of life.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise forms such as “medical equipment” would make your meaning clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “where” and “that.” This shows some effort to vary sentence structure, but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in the opening (“Science play” and “science playing”), and sentence patterns are often incomplete or awkward, as in “science is also can be seen.” Articles, plurals and punctuation also need attention; for example, “student can save their time” shifts between singular and plural, and several sentences run together after full stops. These problems sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the intended meaning. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check each sentence’s boundaries.
