In society, scientifc research plays a crucial role in shaping human civilisation. While some argue that the primary objective of science should be enhance people's quality of life, others believe that its main purpose should be to pursure new discoveries and expand human knowledge. In my opinion, both objectives are equally important and should go hand in hand.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You give a relevant response and state a clear position in the introduction: both improving lives and expanding knowledge are important. The first body paragraph supports the practical value of science with examples from medicine, technology and agriculture. However, the response only partially develops the task: the second paragraph lists discoveries and inventions but does not explain how these support your view that the two aims are equally important. The final sentence is also cut off, and there is no conclusion to restate your position. The response is 22 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop and support your ideas. Explain the relationship between discovery and human benefit, then complete the essay with a concise conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction and two body paragraphs, and signposts such as “First and foremost,” “On the other hands,” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to guide the reader. The first paragraph also groups examples around practical benefits. However, progression is uneven: the second paragraph moves from space exploration to robots, communication and transport without clearly linking these examples to the central argument. Some transitions are inaccurate or awkward, and the final phrase, “science enhance the secu,” leaves the paragraph unfinished. There is no concluding paragraph to bring the argument together. Organise the second body paragraph around one clear reason, use linking phrases only where they express the relationship between ideas, and add a conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “vaccines,” “life expectancy,” “technological innovations” and “space exploration.” These terms help communicate the subject, but the overall range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response difficult to read. Examples include “scientifc,” “pursure,” “modren,” “life-threatning” and “assessible”; there are also awkward phrases such as “greater qualities of food” and “focus on living organisms.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “larger quantities of food” and “prioritise human well-being.” Vary repeated general words such as “science” and “made” with precise alternatives where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast in the introduction and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “Therefore.” Some sentence structures communicate ideas clearly, but grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally make the meaning harder to follow. For example, “should be enhance” needs an infinitive form, while “Science has explore the space, they went on moon” combines clauses incorrectly and has problems with verb form and articles. The unfinished ending, “science enhance the secu,” also prevents the final sentence from being complete. Practise accurate verb patterns, subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. Proofread each sentence to ensure it has a complete subject and verb and expresses one clear idea.
