Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different views on whether the main issue of enviroment in this time is fatality of many species or there are other various enviromental obstacle. while there are reasonable arguments in favour of both perspective, i belive that there are too many factor of enovioments crisis like global warming and pollution.

On the one hand, those who say the significant issue is loss of various species argue that loss of animals and plants should effects enviroments. This is primarly because plants are the source of fresh air and oxygen and their diminishing effect enivorment. For instance, In an area where the population anong very high and the number of trees are diminish due to,lack of oxygen it has negative impacts on enviroment. Therefore it is understanble why some people consider loss of plants and animals is the main issue.

On the other hand , i find arguments in favour that there are too many others thing that change our enviorment. The main reaon is that rising population siginificantly and increase of traffics on road. This particularly notable beacuse pollution increase throughout with deficiency of rising population and traffics on road. For example, population effects enviroment in many ways like noise pollution, garbage, water poullution, air pollution. For these reason, i beleive that others thing also effect envioroment.

In conclusion, although the lack of various specises of plants and animals effects enviorement, i believe that there are many other things like pollution of traffic and population that disturb our enviroment

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and state your position: the first body paragraph explains why species loss matters, while the second argues that population growth, traffic and pollution are broader concerns. This gives the response a relevant overall focus. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The explanation that plants provide oxygen is relevant, but the example about a crowded area and diminishing trees is unclear and does not show precisely how species loss affects the environment. The second view lists several forms of pollution without explaining their wider consequences or comparing their importance with biodiversity loss. To strengthen the response, develop one specific example for each view and make your judgement about which problem is more serious explicit and consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the basic progression. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “This particularly notable because pollution increase throughout with deficiency of rising population” does not clearly explain the relationship between population growth, traffic and pollution. The example that follows also becomes a list rather than a developed line of reasoning. Improve cohesion by using clear cause-and-effect links and by ensuring each example directly supports the paragraph’s main point. The conclusion repeats the position but could synthesise the comparison more clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “species,” “global warming,” “pollution,” “oxygen,” and several types of pollution. This gives you enough topic-related language to communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and many word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “fatality of many species,” “environmental obstacle,” “diminishing effect environment,” and “increase of traffics.” Some key terms are also repeatedly misspelled, such as “environment” and “pollution,” which reduces clarity. Build a more accurate set of common environmental collocations and check spelling carefully. Using precise phrases such as “the decline in species,” “environmental challenges,” and “vehicle emissions” would make your arguments clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“while there are reasonable arguments…”) and cause-and-effect explanations. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the main issue … is fatality … or there are other” does not form a balanced grammatical comparison, while “the population … are diminish” has problems with agreement and verb form. In “rising population significantly and increase of traffics,” the sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and verb forms. More accurate control of these patterns will make your ideas easier to understand.
