IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Environmental issues become a widespread problem worldwide. Some people think endangered species and plants continue to lose, while others believe that other problems related to the environment are more significant. This essay will explain both perspectives before explaining my opinion.

Some particular species symbolize the culture of a certain location. For instance, the Philippine eagle is originally found and only lives inside the Philippine territory. Some poachers and hunters are not aware that catching those unique species is prohibited and illegal because it causes extinction. This will be solved by spreading awareness about animal welfare, which provides education about illegal hunting of endangered species worldwide. Additionally, we could also protect them by caring about their habitat, which serves as their breeding area where they can multiply.

On the other hand, others say that there are more crucial environmental problems like deforestation and mining, which greatly affect human lives in a harmful way. These activities are illegal which consequently leads to landslide and flash flood. The importance of trees and mountains should be maintained and prioritized by people, as it provides fresh oxygen and protects us from strong storms. Its relevance is unrequited compared with businesses who aim to destroy nature.

In my perspective, protecting our lives by caring for nature is a bare minimum. Setting aside all forms of actions just to nurture humans and nature should be the one prioritized by the government, as they are the one who is capable. Tree planting campaigns are one of the best solutions, as it provides support on saving the mother earth.

Overall, all issues related to environment are indispensable, however focusing on nature alone affects many people and animals, by spreading awareness of the law and tree planting campaigns are the first step in protecting the environment.
