Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding the importance of species loss and the counter-argument about deforestation are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The essay would benefit from more specific examples and a clearer explanation of why one issue might be considered more 'important' than the other. The position is stated but not fully explored or supported with sophisticated reasoning, which limits the score to a 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are frequently missing or mechanical (e.g., 'Opponents says that there are more crucial problems'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas feels disjointed. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the lack of effective linking words makes the text difficult to follow at times. Improved use of transition signals would significantly enhance the coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple, everyday language. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'narrate' instead of 'argue' or 'state', and 'usual diet' instead of 'natural diet'. Spelling errors, such as 'envoirmental', 'beacouse', and 'loosing', are present throughout the text. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of range and the frequency of errors in word choice and spelling prevent a higher score. Expanding the vocabulary to include more academic and topic-specific terms is essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Few people says', 'Opponents says') and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'cannot life'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before periods and erratic capitalization. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty or unclear. The high frequency of errors, particularly in basic grammar, occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
