Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is an ongoing debate regarding, environment face with a lot of problems. A group of individuals believe that, the key environmental issue of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. However, others claim that, there are more important environmental problems. Therefore, ahead of my opinion, both the views will be discussed further.

Examining the former opinion, the primary argument the supports would put forward is connection of plants and animals. This is because there is an ecosystem in nature, and if only one type of species get extinct the ecosystem will collapse. That is why environmental problems are connects with the animals and plants. in addition, they also believe that the extinct of Venus flytrap is one of the major. The reason is they used to hunt flies but now it faced with extinction. Because of this, fly number grew rapidly over few years. It transported many diseases around the world. The biggest example was Covid 19. A tons of people died due to mosquitoes and flies.

On the contrary, those in favor of the latter opinion have their own arguments. To begin with, they claim that there are other types of problems around the world. The example is a climate change. This is because of our earth ozone layer is getting thinner and the sun wave makes more damage to our earth. Moreover, our world is becoming more warm when the summer hits. On the other hand, the temperature of earth gets more colder when it becomes winter. it increases the number of sickness. For instance, sun burn, cold, fever and more.

To conclude and offer my position, there are convincing arguments both for and against environment that face with difficulties. However, I certainly favor the former opinion. This is because species are also one of the biggest impact on climate change.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The argument regarding the Venus flytrap is factually questionable and lacks logical depth, as it attempts to link a specific plant species to the global spread of Covid-19, which is not a credible or well-supported argument. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting evidence is weak and borders on irrelevant. To improve, you should focus on providing more logical, universally accepted examples, such as the role of biodiversity in ecosystem resilience or the impact of climate change on global food security.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'ahead of my opinion' is an unnatural way to introduce a stance, and 'the primary argument the supports would put forward' contains grammatical errors that disrupt the flow. While there is a logical progression from one paragraph to the next, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and missing logical connectors. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help the essay read more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'the extinct of Venus flytrap' (should be 'extinction') and 'fly number grew rapidly' (should be 'the fly population increased'). The phrase 'A tons of people' is also grammatically and lexically incorrect. You have a basic range of vocabulary, but you need to focus on using words in their correct forms and collocations to convey your ideas more accurately and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('environmental problems are connects'), article usage ('the primary argument the supports'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. The misuse of prepositions and verb tenses is also noticeable throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
