Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people think lose animals and plants is very big environmental problem. I think this is true because animals are beautiful. Many animals die now because people kill them. Also plants are good for nature. If we lose them, it is very bad for world. We need plants for make oxygen and clean air.But other people say there are more big problems. For example, pollution is very bad. Air pollution in big cities makes people sick. Many cars and factories make bad smoke. Also climate change is very hot now. The weather is changing every year. Ice is melting in polar places. This is also very dangerous for everyone. In my opinion, I agree with both. Losing animals is sad but pollution is also big problem. Governments must do something to stop this. People should protect nature and not throw garbage. We need to save the world for future. If we do not change, our planet will be destroyed very soon.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 160 words. Consequently, the ideas are significantly underdeveloped. While you address both sides of the argument and provide a personal opinion, the lack of depth prevents a higher score. The arguments regarding biodiversity loss and pollution are stated rather than explored or supported with specific, relevant examples. To improve, you must expand each paragraph by explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind your points, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and mechanical. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'Also' and 'But' to start sentences. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words or referencing to connect ideas within and between paragraphs. To improve, try using a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'nevertheless' to create a smoother flow of information throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple adjectives like 'big', 'bad', and 'sad', which limits the precision of your argument. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay. For example, instead of 'big environmental problem', you could use 'pressing ecological concern'. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to the environment, such as 'biodiversity loss', 'sustainable development', or 'mitigate the effects of climate change'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'lose animals' (should be 'losing animals'), 'for make oxygen' (should be 'to produce oxygen'), and 'more big' (should be 'bigger'). These errors, while not always impeding communication, occur frequently enough to impact the overall quality. To improve, practice using subordinating conjunctions (e.g., 'although', 'because', 'if') to create more complex sentence structures and pay closer attention to verb forms and comparative adjectives.
