Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our era is the loss of particular species of plants and animals but other say that there are more important environmental problems.
It is obviously the environmental problem that we loss many unique species of plants and animals which are beneficial for us. People used to say this due to their loss in species which are very precious. Many plants that were used by pharmacist to make useful medicines are now extinct and humans are unable to get that useable medicines anymore. Similarly, many animals are now extinct and many are endangered due to these situations our climate is in danger. Extinction of species impact the food chain in our climate. food chain should destroyed by these circumstances.
Other people say that there are more important environmental problems than the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Their thought is also right in its own way. Other Environmental problems like pollution is the biggest problem nowadays that harms our environment. Waste materials are disposed off in water that is contaminated by many fishes which is then harm the marine as well as human life. waste water or material by many Industries are release into water and then that water we use at our homes which leads to many harmful diseases.
In my opinion, there are many other environmental problems which are much more essential to focus on than loss of species. For Example, Ozone layer depletion and environmental pollution are worst problems nowadays. Due to Ozone layer depletion, many skin problems we face today. However, Environmental pollution is one of the worst problem in this era. People don't find even clean water to drink. Our health is on risk because of many pollutions we face in our daily life.
Overall, Its right that loss of many particular species of plants and animals is the environmental problem but in my opinion there are many other environmental problems that are more important.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how species loss impacts the food chain is brief and lacks depth. Similarly, the discussion on pollution is repetitive, focusing heavily on water contamination without exploring broader environmental impacts. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments would benefit from more specific examples or a more nuanced exploration of the 'importance' of these problems to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'Similarly' and 'In my opinion' are used, but there is a lack of sophisticated linking between sentences and ideas. Some transitions feel abrupt, such as the shift between the discussion of species loss and the counter-argument. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, which forces the reader to work harder to follow the progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'problem', 'environmental', and 'important'. Some word choices are imprecise or non-standard, such as 'pharmacist' (should be 'pharmaceutical companies' or 'pharmacologists') and 'useable medicines'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of varied, topic-specific vocabulary and occasional errors in collocation prevent the essay from demonstrating a more flexible control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('other say', 'food chain should destroyed'), article usage, and awkward phrasing ('that is contaminated by many fishes which is then harm'). While the writer attempts complex structures, these are often where the errors are most noticeable. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent, which is characteristic of the 5.5 to 6.0 range.
