Student answer (Band 6.0)

Agriculture is an essential part of human existence. To some people, the major environmental problem of our time is the loss of a particular species of plants and animals while to the others, there are more important issues than environmental problems. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the formal view and this essay will discuss them in detail.

To being, the loss of a particular species of plants and animals has taken a toll on our environment, this is because plants on one hand assist in the purification of our air through photosynthesis through the conversion of the carbon dioxide humans' breath out to the oxygen, which is essential for survival. Animals on the other hand, assist in the decomposition of certain waste or other dead animals, consequently cleaning the environment through such process. When such plants and animals are lost, their absence may create certain problems in the environment, leading to issue to the inhabitants of such places. For instance, in city centers, loss of certain species of plants due to modernization, may lead to air pollution, consequently affecting the health of occupants. Similarly, indiscriminate hunting of certain animals like the scavengers may threaten our environment as dead animals will litter our surrounding. In my opinion, the extinction of both will has a lot of environmental implications more than the others as it affects our health directly.

Other issues such as inadequate social infrastructures are more important because with the help of these resources, the need for animals and plant in the society will be minial

In conclusion, although there are other environmental issues such as inadequate social amenities, loss of certain plants and animal is the major enironmental challengies of our time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views, though the second view is significantly underdeveloped. You mention that others believe there are more important issues, but you fail to explain what those issues are in any meaningful way, merely mentioning 'inadequate social infrastructures' without connecting it to the environmental debate. Your own position is clear, but the supporting arguments for the opposing view are too brief to meet the requirements for a well-developed response. To improve, ensure that both sides of the argument receive balanced attention and that your reasoning is fully extended with clear examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the brevity of the second body paragraph. While you use some cohesive devices like 'on the other hand' and 'consequently', the transition between the two main viewpoints is abrupt. The final paragraph is also very short and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, focus on creating smoother transitions between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence that flows logically to a conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'photosynthesis', 'decomposition', and 'modernization'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'minial' instead of 'minimal' and 'challengies' instead of 'challenges'. The phrasing 'the formal view' is also slightly unnatural in this context; 'the former view' would be more appropriate. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and proofreading for spelling errors, which currently limit your ability to convey ideas with full precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. For example, 'To being' should be 'To begin', and 'the extinction of both will has' contains a subject-verb agreement error. There are also punctuation issues, such as comma splices in the second paragraph (e.g., '...environment, this is because...'). While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and avoiding comma splices.
