Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Some say that there are more important environmental problems I believe that there are more important problems.
On one hand, the loss of particular species and plants is a serious environmental concern. As there are so many animals that are becoming extinct because of not good climate, food, pollution. The extinction of animals and plants is very serious problem as our future generation can't see the animals and plants which are extinct. This can also affect the ecosystem. Because many of the animals are depended on one other as if any one become extinct it can affect the ecosystem. The protection of animals and plants should be take into consideration and government should do something to keep them safe.
On the other hand, there are many problems that are affecting environment. Like the climate change, Pollution, global warming because of these not animals and plants but humans are also suffering from diseases that are not good for their health. The problems should take into consideration an should do something to control them. The forests are being cutting down for making big buildings and offices because of these the fresh air is not coming and people are becoming ill.
I believe that, the environmental problems should take into consideration and government should applicable some rules and regulations on them as the life of human and animals is very important.
In conclusion, both the problems are important as they are related to the environmental concern and they affect on humans and animals and environments on much larger scale.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of why climate change is a more pressing issue than species loss is repetitive and lacks specific, well-developed examples. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views, the arguments provided are quite general and rely on simplistic reasoning. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed evidence or logical consequences for your claims, rather than listing problems like 'pollution' or 'global warming' without explaining their broader impact or comparing them effectively to the loss of biodiversity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'On one hand' is used, but the subsequent paragraph lacks a sophisticated flow. There are also issues with referencing; for example, in the final paragraph, 'both the problems' is vague. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied linking words, making the overall flow feel somewhat disjointed at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'not good' and 'do something', which are imprecise. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'not good climate' and 'forests are being cutting down'. To improve, you should aim to use more academic vocabulary and precise collocations. For example, instead of 'not good climate', you could use 'adverse climatic conditions'. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many of the animals are depended on one other'), incorrect passive voice usage (e.g., 'should be take into consideration'), and missing articles. The sentence 'The problems should take into consideration an should do something' is grammatically broken. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score.
