Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views as requested, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you mention climate change and pollution, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the discussion on species loss is conflated with general pollution, and the connection between individual actions and global environmental issues is not clearly articulated. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a clear summary of your position. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-supported argument and provide a complete, coherent conclusion that restates your opinion clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with' and 'Turning towards', which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete ending and some awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is present, but the ideas within the paragraphs are not always linked smoothly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between climate change and individual vehicle use feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that your sentences flow logically from one to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. You rely on repetitive phrases like 'day by day' and 'many of individuals'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'oxygen problem' and 'etcerta' (which is a misspelling of 'etcetera'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental science, such as 'biodiversity', 'ecosystem degradation', or 'sustainable practices', and avoid informal or vague expressions. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'environmental issues increases'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'many of the species plants and animals were declined'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization. Practicing complex sentences will help, but ensure they are grammatically accurate before using them in your writing.
