Student answer (Band 5.5)

Owing to the problems where some people argue that ecological crisis is the reason behind the loss of specific kinds of living things such as plants and animals. While, few of them argue that there are another environmental issues are to consider. In this task, we will discuss about both perceptions and give what practical solution is suitable.

To start with one issue that some people believe that environmental degradation has become a serios global concern. The main reason is loss of biodiversity for example, many plants and animal species are becoming extinct due to habitat destruction, pollution, and health risks. Moreover, deforestation like cutting down forests destroys wildlife habitats which is the biggest loss of living things.

Consequently, another issue is that people consider other ecological issues are more crucial and not negligible at any cost.

There are several issues like climate changes, air pollution, water pollution, soil degradation. For that reasons, a large number of public are affected by greenhouse gasses emissions, leading to rising temperatures, melting ice caps and extreme weather. In addition, pollution substantially exacerbates the environment. For instance, emissions from vehicles factories and burning fuels cause health problems and damage ecosystems.

However, i strongly believe that both issues are prevalent, due to these reasons i think authorities should have to be more serious regarding these problems. And to some extent, in any case environmental issues are to be solved rather it is for survival of the living things or other ecological degradation.

To conclude, number of individuals consider that living things like plants and animals life are highly important as compared to other environmental problems. However, i firmly believe that government should take actin and people also come closer and organize campaign to tackle these problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development is somewhat superficial. The introduction is slightly confusing, as it frames the task as a request for a 'practical solution' rather than a discussion of viewpoints. While the main body paragraphs identify the two sides, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. For instance, the mention of 'habitat destruction' and 'greenhouse gases' is relevant but remains at a general level. The conclusion attempts to summarize the points, but the position could be more clearly articulated throughout the essay. To improve, ensure each viewpoint is explored with more detailed reasoning and clearer examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Owing to the problems where some people argue' in the opening sentence. The transition between the two viewpoints is clear, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disconnected due to repetitive phrasing. Overall, the progression of ideas is present, but the essay would benefit from more sophisticated transitions to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'a large number of public' instead of 'a large segment of the public' or 'take actin' (a spelling error). While the student uses topic-specific terms like 'biodiversity', 'extinct', and 'greenhouse gases', the range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more sophisticated collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing, while also ensuring that spelling errors are minimized to prevent any potential confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of the message, such as 'there are another environmental issues are to consider' and 'authorities should have to be more serious'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence fragments and subject-verb agreement. While the student attempts complex sentences, the control over these structures is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on sentence construction, specifically ensuring that clauses are correctly linked and that verb tenses are used consistently throughout the response.
