Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, environmental problem has become a widely debated issues among people of different backgrounds, first many people say that it is the main environmental issue of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. While others people argue that there are more important environmental problems. I will discuss both the views before my own opinion.
On the one hand, many humans that the main reasons of environmental issue of our time loss of species of different plants and different animals, factories smoke is not good to humans and plants and animals there fore government should factories smoke is off. A clear example of this can be seen in when factories smoke and air pollution go to the air it is a big loss of plants and animals and not clean water in the society. There fore governments should to get control factories smoke and they have control the smoke vehicles and neat water go to get the society so that animals and plants safe the life and not loss of particular species.
On the other hand, other argue that there are more important the environmental issue is big sign in society there fore every people should air pollution neat the society. They can illustrated can be seen in if peoples cutting the tree it is big loss in the city there fore all humans should grow to the new plants so that society see neat and beautiful.
In conclusion, both views has merit and my opinion both views is very important in the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views mentioned in the prompt, but the development of ideas is significantly limited. The arguments regarding species loss and other environmental issues are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the discussion on factory smoke is vague and does not clearly link to the broader concept of biodiversity loss. Furthermore, your own opinion is not clearly articulated; you simply state that both views are important without explaining why or how they relate to your perspective. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and provides specific, well-explained examples that directly support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by unclear phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. While you use some transition words like 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion', the internal structure of the paragraphs is disjointed. Sentences often feel like a list of loosely related thoughts rather than a cohesive argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless') and ensure that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one to create a more coherent argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. You frequently use words like 'big', 'neat', and 'things' (or implied general nouns), which are not precise enough for an academic essay. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'environmental problem' instead of 'environmental problems' and 'every people' instead of 'everyone'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic vocabulary and ensure that words are used in the correct context. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetition and improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'both views has merit'), sentence structure (e.g., 'government should factories smoke is off'), and article usage. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary structure to be considered grammatically sound. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentence structures, which limits your ability to demonstrate control over complex grammar. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject, verb, and object, and work on using more complex sentence forms like relative clauses or conditional structures.
