Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and presents a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention pollution and deforestation as causes for species loss, the explanation of how this impacts human life is a bit repetitive. The second body paragraph introduces water pollution as a counter-argument, but the connection between this and the prompt's requirement to discuss 'more important' environmental problems could be more explicitly linked. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of your position. To improve, ensure each point is fully extended with specific examples and ensure your conclusion provides a cohesive final thought.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often hindered by mechanical and repetitive transitions. Phrases like 'In the forthcoming paragraph' are overly formal and unnatural. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often applied incorrectly or in a way that disrupts the flow, such as the comma usage before 'In the forthcoming' and the fragmented sentence structure in the second paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of a finished conclusion significantly impacts the overall coherence of the piece. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring sentences are clearly connected would help raise this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'major problem' and 'environmental problems' repeatedly. There are some attempts at more sophisticated vocabulary, such as 'detrimental ramifications' and 'predominantly', but these are occasionally used with incorrect collocation or grammar. Spelling errors, such as 'know as days' (nowadays) and 'underling' (underlying), also detract from the quality. To improve, focus on using a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('there is two categories'), incorrect word order, and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of commas and the lack of proper sentence boundaries. The use of articles is also inconsistent. While you attempt complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and punctuation before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
