Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, some people believe that there are more important environmental problems aside from the loss of particular species of plants and animals. In this trends it is evident that individuals need to focus on maintaining the environment by planting tress and how to increase the numbers of animals.

On the other hand, the main reason is because more buildings are constructed rather than planting trees around the community. If this scenario continues, it might cause health issues for people especially the old ones. For instance, in big city they have tall buildings anywhere however, there is no plants around it because of that it can cause air pollution. Other cities may experience landslides if they're near mountains especially when its raining hard. Plants and animals are beneficial in a lot of things like to get healthy eating vegetables and meat will help our body system gain energy and power to daily routine.

However, particular species of trees and animals should be monitored by protecting and providing relevant solution on how it can be save and multiply. For instance, professional who is dealing with this species more often advised that taking good care of them will be beneficial in the future. Some species have their own capabilities that can use for medicines.

In conclusion, better to give attention for particular species because no one doesn't want to lose them and ensure to grow their population. However, focusing on the other side that helps the world by having sufficient trees and animals to avoid any health conflictions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views, but the development of ideas is limited and sometimes unclear. While you mention the loss of species and other environmental issues like pollution and urban development, the connection between these points is often weak. For example, the paragraph discussing urban development and landslides lacks a clear link to the prompt's core debate. Your position is stated in the conclusion, but it is not consistently maintained or clearly argued throughout the essay. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea that directly supports your stance, and provide more specific, relevant examples to illustrate your points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', their usage is sometimes mechanical or inappropriate for the context. For instance, the transition between discussing urban development and the benefits of plants is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your argument. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each sentence flows logically from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You use simple terms like 'big city' and 'good care', which lack the precision required for a higher band. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'health conflictions' and 'professional who is dealing with this species', which hinder the clarity of your message. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental science and conservation, and focus on using more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'professional who is dealing'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'no one doesn't want to lose them'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While you attempt complex sentences, they are often faulty, which limits your score in this criterion. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency to improve your accuracy.
