Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think that the extinction of certain plants and animals is the biggest environmental problem today. While others argue that the other environmental issues are more important. While opinions remain divided, I firmly contend that the loss of biodiversity is concern but other problems such that pollution and climate change are more important. On one hand, the loss of species is a serios concern. Every specie in the world plays an important role in ecosystem. Nature is beautiful and every specie make the world more attractive and interesting. For example, rainforest and rare birds attract tourists and inspire artists and photographers. If these species disappear, we will not loss only wildlife but also natural beauty which gives people joy and peace. Furthermore, many animals and plants are connected to our traditions and culture. Losing them means losing heritage. In addition, many plants used to make medicines. If these plants disappear, we loss many treatments for certain diseases. Therefore, protecting wildlife is important for both nature and humans. On the other hand, it is important to recognize that environmental problems have a more direct impact on people's daily lives. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the conclusion is incomplete, as the final sentence cuts off abruptly, which prevents a full summary of your position. While the ideas regarding biodiversity and pollution are relevant, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument about medicinal plants is a strong point, but it could be expanded with more specific detail to reach a higher band. To improve, ensure that your conclusion fully synthesizes your arguments and that your supporting examples are more thoroughly explained rather than just listed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' to link your points. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical transitions and the abrupt ending of the essay. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that your referencing is precise. The lack of a completed concluding sentence negatively impacts the overall coherence of the final paragraph.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity', 'extinction', and 'ecological'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'serios' (serious), 'specie' (species), and 'climatye' (climate). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'balancing ecological'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread for spelling accuracy. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated, academic synonyms will also help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('every specie make', 'these shows') and article usage ('the other environmental issues'). Some sentences are also fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'This is best illustrated that climate change is also leading to extreme weather.' To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures. Proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency will significantly improve your accuracy.
