Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that several people believe loss of specific species of plants and animals has become an increasingly prominent issue of an environmental damage. On the other hand, many individuals say that other factors also contribute in an environmental damage then one specific factor. This essay will address both views before presenting my opinion.
On one hand, particular types of plants and animals are plays a crucial role in environmental hazards. For example, Plants are used in herbal medicines, treatment purposes, and also use as a source of eating. So, cutting trees to free up space for construction of malls, shopping centers, and bungalows to give city a modern look and adjust more population may affects environmental damage. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you mention the importance of species, the arguments regarding 'dinosaurs' and 'feathers for jackets' are not relevant to modern environmental conservation. The second body paragraph attempts to discuss other environmental problems, but the points about 'solar plates' causing heat stroke are factually confusing and lack logical support. To improve, ensure your arguments are grounded in realistic environmental science and provide clear, logical explanations for your claims. Your position is stated in the introduction but remains somewhat vague throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. For example, the transition 'Secondly, moving few animals in zoo' is abrupt and does not connect well to the previous point. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the use of linking words is mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically from the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'environmental hazards' (when you mean environmental damage) and 'eradicates of dinosaur' (which is grammatically and semantically incorrect). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use more sophisticated terms accurately. To improve, try to learn collocations in context—for example, instead of 'destroy environment', use 'degrade the environment' or 'ecological destruction'. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary will help you express your ideas with greater precision and clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'plants and animals are plays', 'solar plates are now install'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which makes the text difficult to follow. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles ('the' environment) and incorrect verb forms will significantly improve your score.
