Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays dectruction of environment has become a global issue. Many people say that the major environmental problem ia associated with the extinction of various species of plants and animals. Other people argue that there are many more significant environmental problems. I will discuss both views regarding the reasons for the loss of habitat and will give my opinion.

On one hand, the increasing population has increased the demands for food, living, and other products that are related to a healthy life of human beings. As the population expands more industries are installed to meet the needs of people which in turn increases the consumption of resources like fuel that results in carbon dioxide emisssion. The emitted carbon increases the temperature which results in global warming. Additionally, the agricultural land are hence transformed to homes to provide accommodation to individuals. Futhermore, deforestration occurs which threatens various types of plants and animals in a particular area hence destructs the habitat.

On the other hand, the pollution is also the major environmental problem. The waste produced by humans and other sources are not properly managed and drainged into water resources which is used by humans for cooking, drinking and other household chores. Futhermore, various metals like arsenic in water causes health related problems like cancer, and hepatitis.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you introduce both sides of the argument, the essay is incomplete; it ends abruptly at 'In my opinion,' without providing your own view or a conclusion. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. To improve, you must ensure you provide a balanced discussion of both perspectives and a clear, well-supported opinion, while also ensuring the essay reaches the required length to allow for full development of your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Additionally,' which help to organize the text. However, the progression of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the response. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the overall structure feel unfinished. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas flow logically toward a final, cohesive conclusion that summarizes your position.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'extinction,' 'consumption,' 'deforestation,' and 'accommodation.' However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'dectruction,' 'ia,' 'emisssion,' 'deforestration,' 'destructs,' and 'drainged.' These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading your work to catch these minor spelling slips and try to incorporate more precise academic collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the agricultural land are' (subject-verb agreement) and 'which is used' (referring to 'resources' plural). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete ending prevents a full assessment of your ability to construct a complex, cohesive argument. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with precision. Regular practice with proofreading will help you identify and correct these recurring minor errors.
