Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some individuals say that the main ecosystem of our period is the loss of dead plants and animals. While some believe that these are more important environmental issues.
It is often argued that environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. This essay will discussed both perspectives, before explaining why I believe that because dead plants and animals destroy our whole society.
On the one hand, many believe that the main environmental issue of our period in the dead plants and animals. Furthermore, it is harmful for our society and many diseases can generate from the dead plants and animals. All the environment will be destroy. For Instance, where dead plants are the many mosquitoes are generate and the dengue virus are generate and many people are effected for this disease. And the dead animals also destroy the whole environment. Therefore, it is understandable why many people hold this opinion.
On the other hand, many people argue that are more significant problem in our society. They believe this because sometimes it is best for the environment due to certain disease are gone for the environment. The environment will be neat and fresh. Furthermore, the fresh air are come and the environment will be breeze and cool.
In my opinion, this approach offers greatly long-term benefits. Because certain disease are came due to there bad ecosystem and also generate many bad diseases.
Consequently, Although both views have their own merits, and both are valid. However, I strongly believe that the main ecosystem of our period is dead plants and animals and it provides more advantages for individuals and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt but struggles significantly with the core topic. The student interprets 'loss of species' as 'dead plants and animals' (decay/waste), which is a fundamental misunderstanding of the environmental concept of biodiversity loss. Consequently, the arguments provided—such as mosquitoes breeding in dead plants—are largely irrelevant to the actual task. While a position is stated, the development of ideas is illogical due to this misinterpretation. The essay fails to engage with the environmental debate regarding extinction or habitat loss, which is the intended focus of the prompt. As a result, the response is only partially relevant to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the logical progression is weak because the arguments are based on a misunderstanding of the topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore', but they are often used mechanically or inappropriately, such as using 'Furthermore' to introduce a point that contradicts the previous sentence. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between ideas is frequently disrupted by the lack of clarity in the student's reasoning. The overall arrangement is coherent in form but lacks logical depth.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic phrases like 'environmental problem', 'dead plants and animals', and 'society'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'ecosystem of our period' (which is used incorrectly to mean 'environmental issue') and 'diseases can generate from'. The student attempts to use some academic-style connectors, but the lack of precision in vocabulary prevents the expression of complex ideas. The misuse of terminology significantly hinders the clarity of the argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('fresh air are come', 'certain disease are came') and incorrect verb forms ('This essay will discussed'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and sentence fragments or run-on sentences appear occasionally. While the meaning is usually discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures indicates a lack of control, which often impedes the reader's understanding of the intended message.
