Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the current era, more focus given to the technological advancement and less towards the environment, which cause the rise in the different environmental problems. In the race of technology, we forget to prevent and maintain our surroundings. In today's time there are many seveiour environmental problems arising.

Some people say that in today's time, loss of some particular species of plants and animals are the major environmental problems. It is true that, loss of some plant species due to mutation, technological intervention are there. Some animal species are become rare due to decrease in natural habitat. These issues cause damage to the environment. Variety of plants which are having aromatical and medical importance becoming rare plant species. Natural value of such plants cannot be recovered by any man made medicine or technology. Decrease in the variation in the animal species leads damage to the biodiversity. But, I believe that that are many more environmental problems other than this.

Other point out out that despite of loss of some species of plants and animals, global warming, pollution of air, water and land are more important. Because it questioned the survival of living organism on the earth. Global warming leads to increased in the surrounding temperature, which may not be tolerated by any living organism in future. Pollution of air, water and land damage the lifecycle of humans and animals. Lifespan of the living organism decreased due to such environmental problems.

In my views, survival of the living creature on the earth having more important than loss of plant and animal species. If no living organism will available on the earth, there is no meaning of any plant and animal species.

In conclusion, there are many environmental problems arising due to different reasons. Instead of labelling them as more or less important, we should work on it to decrease such issues and make healthy environment for our future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of biodiversity loss versus global warming and pollution. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented in a fairly simplistic manner. For instance, the explanation of why global warming is more important could be more deeply explored with specific examples or consequences. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis prevents it from reaching a higher band. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the ideas remain at a surface level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'In today's time' or 'some'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The transition between the two viewpoints is functional, but the essay would benefit from a more sophisticated range of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence-to-sentence transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'seveiour' (severe), 'aromatical' (aromatic), and 'that are many more' (there are many more). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'biodiversity' and 'technological intervention', the overall range is limited. The errors in spelling and word formation are noticeable, though they do not significantly impede the reader's understanding of the main points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('more focus given', 'loss of some particular species... are'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage ('despite of'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from achieving a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on sentence construction and proofreading for common errors in tense and agreement.
