Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 198 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. While you address both sides of the argument and state a clear position, the under-length nature of the essay prevents a full exploration of the topic. To improve, you must expand your body paragraphs with more detailed explanations and specific, well-developed examples to ensure the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the hand' (which should be 'On the one hand') and 'moreover', but the transitions between sentences are often abrupt. The lack of depth makes the logical flow feel disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to your overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'problem', 'serious', and 'environmental'. There are also several errors in word choice and form, such as 'balancing the ecosystem' (should be 'balance the ecosystem'), 'depents' (depends), and 'dieases' (diseases). To achieve a higher band, you need to use a broader range of topic-specific vocabulary and demonstrate better control over word formation and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some people says'), incorrect article usage ('the environmental problem'), and awkward phrasing ('the plants are depents on them'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences, and those that are attempted often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles.
