Student answer (Band 6.0)

Environmental problems is one of the primary issue on earth. Many individuals say that the loss of certain species of plants and animals is the major environmental matter, while others believe that there are more foremost environmental problems. This essay will explain both points of view and give my personal standpoint in detail.

On the one hand, Many people argue that primary cause of environmental damage is the extinction of plants and animals due to several reasons. Firstly, a loss of particular plants and animal will have an effect on the food chain shift. For insurance, the extinction of snakes will have a huge impact on a massive increase in rat population. A high number of mice will lead to many diseases in humans, like diarrhoea and leptospirosis. Secondly, the loss of particular creatures will have an effect on an environmental disaster.

On the other hand, Instead of choosing the loss of some species as the main environmental issue, some people believe that there are more important problems, one of them is air pollution. Air pollution can bring more detrimental impacts. As an example, air pollution will have an influence on people by infecting respiratory organs. This case worsen by the increasing number of private vehicle owners which increases the amount of carbon in the air. This harmful element on air is the primary reason of global warming, which breaks the ozone layer.

In conclusion, the extinction of some animal and plants species is one of a natural issue. However, increasing of air pollution will produce more magnificent disadvantages. After a thorough analysis of this subject, I firmly believe that there are more crucial problem of environment rather than species loss, which is air pollution problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the food chain impact of species loss and the health consequences of air pollution. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding species loss is brief and relies on a single example. The conclusion clearly states your position, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides more depth and nuanced analysis rather than just listing points. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the environmental issues discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your writing. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'For insurance' (likely meant 'For instance') and 'This case worsen by'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this case') is precise to avoid ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'extinction', 'respiratory organs', and 'global warming'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations. For example, 'primary issue on earth' should be 'one of the primary issues on Earth', and 'magnificent disadvantages' is an incorrect collocation; 'significant' or 'severe' would be more appropriate. Additionally, 'For insurance' is a misuse of vocabulary. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that the words you choose are used in the correct context to convey your meaning precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Environmental problems is', 'increasing of air pollution'), article usage ('the loss of particular plants and animal'), and tense errors ('This case worsen by'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly subject-verb agreement and pluralization, and proofread your work to catch these small but frequent slips.
