Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, there are many problems in the world. Some people believe that the loss of plants and animals is the main environmental problem while other people think that there are serious environmental problem. This essay will discuss both views.

On the one hand, the loss of plants and animals are serious problem. Every Plant and animal has an important role in nature. If some species disappear it can disturb the natural balance. For example, if a particular type of insects becomes extinct, some plants may not be pollinated properly. Some plants use in special medicine if they remove all over the world medicine do not ready.

Moreover hunting or cutting forests are causing many animals to lose thier home.If some animals hunts all over the world they cause the problem because some things doing there.

On the other hand, there are other environmental problems that can effect a much larger number of people. Air pollution, water pollution and climate changing are the examples. These problems cause that the health issues. If air pollution increase they cause the human donot have breath in the world.

In my opinion both are serious problems, the loss of species is important, but pollution and climate change are serious becuase they effect humans animals and all over the world. Therefore, governments should strict action in the enviornmental problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development of ideas is limited. The essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of the arguments. For instance, the point about medicinal plants is underdeveloped and lacks clarity. While the prompt is addressed, the lack of sufficient length and the superficial nature of the supporting arguments prevent a higher score. To improve, you must expand on your examples and provide more detailed explanations for your claims to meet the word count and demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Moreover hunting or cutting forests' is abrupt, and the connection between sentences within paragraphs is often weak. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'If some animals hunts all over the world they cause the problem because some things doing there.' Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'medicine do not ready' and 'the human donot have breath'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'thier', 'enviornmental') indicate a restricted range. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating words like 'problem' and 'serious' throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the loss of plants and animals are'), incorrect verb forms ('Some plants use in special medicine'), and missing articles. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'If air pollution increase they cause the human donot have breath'. To improve, you need to work on consistent subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and building more complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
