Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people make a point that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals, while others suggest that there are more important environmental problems such as global warming and deforestation for urban development.
Both views are true in their own criteria, species like plants and animal had played a vital role the past to safe guard us from various environmental problems, such as diseases and viruses, many of the insects were wiped by fishes and birds other creatures like bats and related species also were very beneficial for our environmental problems, for example there were some type of bats in Australia who eats insects which were causing malaria, when these bats went extinction, the problem for serious malaria arises. this suggest that spices like plant and animals did provided us with various protection and diseases.
Global warming and deforestation is currently the rising causes to our environmental problems, green house gases and plastic waste are also damaging our environment. The green house gases is constantly damaging our ozone layer, through damaged parts of the ozone layer UV rays enter our ECO system and causing us global warming and constant whether changing, this results in floods and tsunami and becomes the reason and threat for our liveliness.
In my opinion, we should be more responsible with our nature and the scarce resources which it offers us, and we should protect the environment and make it safe again for birds and plants and should not interfere with natures boundaries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The argument regarding species loss relies on a single, somewhat unclear example about bats in Australia, and the discussion of global warming is quite general. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the two viewpoints or provide a strong, well-reasoned justification for the stated opinion. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and more concrete, accurate examples to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or missing. For example, the transition between the discussion of species loss and global warming is abrupt. Some sentences are poorly connected, such as 'this suggest that spices like plant and animals did provided us with various protection and diseases,' which lacks a clear logical link to the preceding sentence. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in contrast') would significantly improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'make a point that' instead of 'argue that,' and 'liveliness' instead of 'livelihoods' or 'well-being.' Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'spices' instead of 'species' and 'whether' instead of 'weather.' To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many of the insects were wiped by fishes,' 'green house gases is'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'did provided'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
