Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals believes that in recent times, the main concern related to the environment is the loss of particular species of plants and animals meanwhile others say that there is the presence of many more concerning environmental challenges. This essay will discuss both the views and will share my opinion in the last.

To begin with the problem of the species of plants and animals which are getting endangered and about to lost in the near future is mainly due to the human actions. Due to urbanization, there is the rise in the deforestation which make the animals vulnerable to the human areas and get poached by them for their benefits which result in their extinction meanwhile cutting down of trees leads to the global warming which destroy the plant species and ultimately destroy the natural system which we rely on.

Furthermore, there are many more issues related to the environment in the recent time as a major concern which is pollution. Due to overpopulation, the use of single plastic increased which leads to the land pollution however with the advancement of technology, there is the frequent utilization of vehicles which release harmful gases in air and make it polluted meanwhile there is the development of industries near the sea bodies which destroy the water by throwing chemical waste in it.

In conclusion, I completely agree with both the opinions as all the issues whether it is the loss of biodiversity or pollution the ultimately reason is the harmful human activities for their advancement which destroy the nature and the loss of other species on the planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt and presents a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention deforestation and pollution, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. For instance, you mention 'human actions' and 'advancement' as causes, but these are broad generalizations. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete evidence or detailed explanations of how these environmental issues specifically impact the planet. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, merely restating that human activity is the cause, rather than synthesizing the two views discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. The overuse of the word 'meanwhile' to connect clauses is repetitive and occasionally creates awkward phrasing, such as in the second paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the two main body paragraphs could be smoother to better reflect the contrast between the two viewpoints presented in the prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on general terms like 'problems,' 'challenges,' and 'things.' There are also some collocation errors, such as 'about to lost' (should be 'about to be lost') and 'throwing chemical waste' (a more academic term would be 'discharging industrial effluent'). While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'biodiversity,' 'deforestation,' and 'extinction,' the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and precise collocations to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'Many individuals believes' (should be 'believe') and 'use of single plastic increased' (should be 'has increased'). There are also issues with article usage and sentence structure, such as 'the cutting down of trees leads to the global warming' (remove 'the'). While you attempt complex sentences, they are often marred by these errors. You need to focus on basic accuracy and proofreading to ensure that your complex structures are grammatically sound.
