Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you identify both sides of the argument, the discussion is superficial and lacks depth. You do not clearly state your own opinion as requested by the prompt, which is a key requirement for a higher band score. The ideas are repetitive, particularly regarding climate change, and lack specific examples or logical extensions to support your points. To improve, ensure you fully explore each viewpoint with detailed explanations and provide a clear, consistent personal stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'Primarily' and 'On the other hand', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'some of them say', which lacks a clear antecedent. The flow between sentences is often interrupted by grammatical errors, making the text feel somewhat choppy. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother, more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'problem', 'bad', and 'things', which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'environment can face backlash' and 'recent context', which do not sound natural in this academic setting. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental science and demonstrate a better grasp of collocations. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('environment get affected'), article usage ('care environment pollution'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors in tense, such as 'events had been already happened'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for common errors like missing prepositions and incorrect word forms will also be beneficial.
