Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the contemporary era, many individuals think that the main environmental issue of our time is the loss of specific species of animals and plants, On the contrary, other people believe that there are more crucial environmental challenges. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my own opinion.
On the one hand, nowadays plants and animals species are becoming extinct. This is because plants are facing lack of water and animals are hunting due to their species are decreasing in the world. Furthermore, they do not have food for eat, therefore they are dying for hunger. Secondly, these days climate changes is a major issue for extinction of species because weather and temperature are often changing owing to plants are not growing properly and animals live at streets and roads, they eat junk food. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both views, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. For instance, the claim that animals are dying because they 'eat junk food' on the streets is not a relevant or well-supported environmental argument. Furthermore, you do not clearly state your own opinion as requested by the prompt. The conclusion is repetitive and fails to synthesize the arguments or provide a final stance. To improve, ensure you fully explore each viewpoint with logical reasoning and provide a clear, consistent position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but the flow of ideas is often disjointed. Paragraphing is present, but the content within the paragraphs lacks logical progression. For example, the transition from discussing climate change to street dogs in India is abrupt and confusing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between sentences is often mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed central idea that logically follows the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'environmental issue', 'animals', and 'plants' throughout the text. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'animals are hunting' (when you mean they are being hunted) and 'spreading in worldwide'. Some phrases are grammatically incorrect, which hinders the precision of your argument. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental science and avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government they do not take care them'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'Furthermore, they do not have food for eat, therefore they are dying for hunger.' The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the correct use of prepositions, articles, and verb tenses, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
