Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 150 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you attempt to discuss the loss of species, you do not address the second part of the prompt—the 'other' environmental problems—nor do you provide a balanced discussion. The ideas are repetitive and lack the necessary depth, development, or relevant examples required for an academic essay. To improve, you must ensure you address all parts of the prompt, provide a clear structure with distinct paragraphs, and expand your arguments with specific, well-supported examples to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is essential for organizing ideas in an academic response. The progression of ideas is disjointed and repetitive, making it difficult for the reader to follow your argument. You rely on basic, repetitive cohesive devices like 'Because' and 'Then' at the start of almost every sentence, which creates a mechanical and unnatural flow. To improve, you should group related ideas into clear paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however', and 'in contrast' to connect your thoughts logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

Your vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. You frequently use basic words like 'problems', 'dangerous', and 'bad', and there are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'plants is finish' and 'animals lose'. Many of these errors make your meaning unclear. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to the environment, such as 'biodiversity', 'ecosystem', 'extinction', and 'habitat destruction'. Additionally, try to use more precise adjectives and verbs to describe the severity of environmental issues rather than relying on simple descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'plants is finish', 'animals died than peoples throw'), article usage, and sentence structure. Most of your sentences are simple or fragmented, lacking the complex structures required for higher band scores. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Practice using complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions (e.g., 'although', 'because', 'while') and ensure you proofread your work to correct basic errors in tense and pluralization.
