Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping at only 152 words. Because the text breaks off mid-sentence and is heavily truncated, the task cannot be fully addressed. The writer attempts to discuss both views regarding environmental problems and provides a basic personal opinion. However, the ideas are severely under-developed and lack supporting details. For instance, the mention of pollution and air conditioners is too brief and disjointed to constitute a well-developed argument. Consequently, the response aligns with Band 4 descriptors for Task Achievement due to its minimal development and failure to complete the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organizational structure of the text is severely compromised by its incomplete nature and lack of proper paragraphing. The essay consists of a brief introduction and one fragmented body paragraph that ends abruptly on 'On other hand i'. While transitional markers like 'To start with' are attempted, the overall progression of ideas is difficult to follow. Logical sequencing is hindered by frequent run-on sentences and a lack of cohesive devices. Paragraphing is used inappropriately because the second paragraph breaks off before an argument can be established. This level of coherence corresponds closely to Band 4, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors that strain the reader's understanding. Examples of errors include 'indiviual' for individual, 'speacies' for species, 'enviraonmental' for environmental, 'pullison' for pollution, and 'polustion' for pollution. The range of vocabulary is extremely limited, relying on elementary terms that fail to demonstrate flexibility or precision. While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'pollution' and 'species', inaccurate spelling and inappropriate word forms prevent effective communication. This falls under the descriptors for Band 4.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent and severe errors. There is a complete lack of control over basic sentence boundaries, leading to run-on sentences without punctuation, such as 'To start with there many problems which are bigger then loss of species. the first problem is pollution in the town area that is biggest effect on enviroment...'. Subject-verb agreement errors are common, such as 'some indiviual people thinks' and 'there others important'. Punctuation and capitalization are largely neglected throughout the text. Because errors frequently distort meaning and grammatical control is weak, a Band 4 score is appropriate.
