Student answer (Band 5.5)
the growing prevalence of environmental problems are becoming a matter of concern in contemporary society. The issue stem from several underlying factors, a range of measures can be implemented to adress it. Some people believed that environmental issues are caused by loss of some species and other reflects that they are caused by other factors. This essay will discuss both view and proive an effective opinion.
On one hand, it is believed that environmental problems are caused by due to loss of certain plantista and animalia families. Fungi plays a key role in decomposition of waste and provides friendly environment for other organisms. Furthermore, pollination is carried by small insects to help in plantation trees.
On the other hand, it is reflected that environmental issues are caused by several factors. Deforestation is the major element in disturbing ecosystem, because its rises planet's temperature and planet's ice sheet is melting due to high temperature, which causes climate change. Moreover, use of fossil fuel can cause pollution and disturbing planet's ozone layer. Cultivation of several crop where fertiliser and chemicals are used are causing greenhouse emission.
In conclusion, I acknowledged that loss of species cause a huge disturbance in ecosystem, however in my opinion i believed that deforestation, usge of fossil fuel and greenhouse emission are more harmful for our planet and environment. There are several way to overcome this issue, electric transportation can be used to stop the greenhouse emission and reforestation can help to stop melting the planet's ice sheet and provide eco friendly environment for living organisms.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that loss of species is the main environmental problem, and that other issues are more significant—while also providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the explanation regarding fungi and pollination is brief, and the counter-arguments regarding deforestation and fossil fuels rely on basic assertions rather than fully extended reasoning. The position is clear throughout the essay, appearing in both the introduction and conclusion. While the ideas are relevant, they lack the depth and extension required for higher bands. Therefore, this performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with traditional introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as "On one hand," "On the other hand," and "In conclusion." However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like "The issue stem from several underlying factors" where the antecedent lacks precision. Paragraphing is used logically to separate the two opposing viewpoints. While the text is generally coherent and easy to follow, the repetitive use of formulaic transitions and minor mechanical cohesion issues keep the score at Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as "prevalence," "decomposition," and "ecosystem." However, there are notable word choice and word formation errors throughout the text, including "adress" instead of "address," "believed" instead of "believe," "plantista and animalia families" which uses unnatural terminology, and "usge" instead of "usage." There are also spelling errors like "proive" for "provide." These lexical inaccuracies and non-standard collocations cause some distraction for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. These characteristics fit the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like causal statements ("because its rises planet's temperature and planet's ice sheet is melting"). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., "the growing prevalence... are becoming" and "The issue stem"), articles (e.g., "use of fossil fuel" instead of "the use of fossil fuels"), and punctuation. Complex structures frequently contain errors, such as "Cultivation of several crop where fertiliser and chemicals are used are causing greenhouse emission." These persistent mistakes place the writing squarely at Band 5.
