Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that the loss of specific species is the main environmental problem, and that other problems are more important—while also presenting a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on plant and animal loss relies heavily on general statements like 'nature plays a crucial role' without deep elaboration. Similarly, the points regarding climate change and urbanization are stated rather than fully extended. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but the arguments would benefit from more specific examples and richer conceptual depth. This performance aligns well with Band 5.5 to 6.0, ultimately fitting the Band 6 descriptor due to addressing all parts of the task with relevant, if somewhat repetitive, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'This is because of people believe...' and 'this is because of climate change'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions and repetitive sentence structures. Overall, the organizational framework is adequate for a Band 5.5, but the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and occasional logical leaps point firmly to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'deforestation', 'urbanization', 'glacier melting', and 'fossil fuels'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and grammatical word-class confusions throughout the text, such as 'major problem of environment' instead of 'major environmental problem', 'some others people', 'Climate change making a big impact', and 'Plants are beauty of nature'. These inaccuracies reflect a limited and somewhat strained lexical control. While communication is not severely impeded, the frequency of word-choice errors and lack of precision prevent the essay from achieving a higher band, placing it solidly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as 'Some people argue that the major problem of environment is losing particular species...' and 'Climate is changing because of burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil etc.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency (e.g., 'people are believing', 'fossil fuels is used', 'losing plants an animals are major problem'). Complex structures are often faulty, and punctuation is occasionally misused or missing. Because the errors are frequent and cause some difficulty for the reader, yet basic communication is still maintained, the performance matches the Band 5 descriptors.
