Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individual believe that the major environmental issue right now in our time is the reduction of numbers of some particular species of plants and animals, while others argue that there are other severe environmental problems.I agree with the second statement because increase in the installation of numerous factories and in vehicles cause an Air pollution which is destroying our ecosytem very badly.

On the one hand, the loss of some species of plants and animals is the main environmental problem right now. This is because due to the rapid construction of tall buildings in urban areas and removing trees for making new socities, animals such as birds or carnivores, shifts to new places. For example, in Islamabad, few year ago there are animals are peresent like monkey and sparrows on the Margalla road. Now, due to the introduction of some socities and new high-rise buildings changes the temperature . Therefore, due to deforestation and global warming some species of animals and palnts results in the loss of life or moving to new places.

On the other hand, there are some essential problems which is more harmful to our world ecosystem. A signifiacnt growth of the new cement factories and private cars cause air pollution in terms of CO2. For instance, Delhi and Lahore recorded the highest effected area in the list of bad environment. The reason behind is the emission of harmful gasses by cars and industrial hubs. In industries, during cement manufacturing there are some process included like heating on high flame and reaction of chemicals. As a result, a bad smoke from the chimneys of factories and from the silences of cars become a reason of Air pollution.

In conclusion, there is a loss of some special species of plants and animals but there are some other important problems which put bad effects on our environment. The introduction of new urban areas and construction of tall buildings disrupts the animals nad plants, and Factories cause air pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that the loss of species is the main environmental problem, and that other problems like air pollution are more significant—while also presenting a clear personal opinion. The writer's position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the arguments regarding deforestation and urbanisation in the second paragraph are slightly under-developed and lack clear articulation of why this constitutes the main problem compared to other global issues. Similarly, the discussion on air pollution in the third paragraph relies on general examples without deep extension. Despite these limitations, all prompt requirements are covered adequately, placing the response solidly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement with four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the structure. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences within paragraphs can feel disjointed due to grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'For example, in Islamabad, few year ago there are animals are peresent like monkey and sparrows'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but internal logical progression needs smoother transitions and better referencing to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'deforestation', 'global warming', and 'industrial hubs'. However, there are frequent word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors that detract from precision. Examples include 'ecosytem' instead of 'ecosystem', 'palnts' instead of 'plants', 'silences' instead of 'silencers', and 'highest effected area' instead of 'most affected area'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they demonstrate a lack of control over more sophisticated lexical features, keeping the vocabulary score at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and article usage. Examples of errors include 'Some individual believe' instead of 'Some individuals believe', 'cause an Air pollution' instead of 'cause air pollution', 'there are animals are peresent' instead of 'animals were present', and 'problems which is' instead of 'problems which are'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher level.
