Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that the main environmental issues is the loss of specific species of plants and animals, while others believe that there are saveral crucial enviromental problems. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that i agree with the second pointview because, loss of plants or animals are not only the environmental issues there are several issues that destroy the environment.

Looking first to the loss of plants, plants plays a crucial role in clean environment and also there are several advantages of plants even without plants life is not possible for instance, plants absorb Co2 and release oxygen to air and without oxygen life is impossible therefore the loss of plants may be danger for living things. Fherthermore, it provide habitate for birds and insects so, if we cut the plants as a result it may be danger for birds and insects. In addition, in term of animals, they are also vital for environment for example, Earthworms break down organic matter and make soil healthier as a result agriculture may be improve so loss of animals may be adverse for agriculture.

On the other hand, there are many problems that effect the environment very bad. First is cars, cars relase a lot of gases wich are harmful for environment for instnace, in Urban areas a huge amount of vehicls relase harmful gases wich effect environment very badly. Anothere reason if Ecological problems are factories, they also relaes a huge amount of various gases wich effect envioronment very badly.

In conclusion, loss of plants and animals can effect environment, while i believe that beside these there are a lot of problems that effect environment very adversly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on environmental problems—biodiversity loss versus other critical issues such as pollution—and provides a clear position. Ideas are presented, such as the role of plants in producing oxygen and earthworms in improving soil health, and pollution from cars and factories. However, these ideas are somewhat repetitive and under-developed, relying on basic explanations rather than deeper extension or precise supporting examples. There is also a slight over-generalisation and circularity in the conclusion. Overall, the performance aligns well with the requirements for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at logical organisation with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and poor cohesive management. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, such as 'Looking first to the loss of plants,' and run-on sentences with excessive comma splices (e.g., 'so, if we cut the plants as a result it may be danger...'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and paragraph transitions lack smooth logical links. This profile fits the characteristics of Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'saveral', 'enviromental', 'fherthermore', 'habitate', 'vehicls', 'relaes', 'and 'envioronment'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary like 'crucial', 'biodiversity' concepts, and 'organic matter', the high frequency of basic errors and incorrect word choices—such as 'effect' used instead of 'affect'—constantly impedes smooth reading. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, reflecting a Band 5.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'plants plays', 'cars relase a lot of gases wich'), missing articles, and heavy punctuation errors like comma splices throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over complex sentence patterns, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
