Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing the view that losing plant and animal species is the main environmental problem, as well as alternative perspectives focusing on industrial pollution and deforestation. The student also manages to present a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion, stating that other causes like industrialization are more pressing. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive, especially in the body paragraphs where points about purifying the environment are vaguely expressed. While the prompt is addressed, the arguments lack depth and solid supporting examples, aligning best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, following a standard essay structure. However, there are significant issues with cohesion and sentence linking. The student misuses transition markers, such as starting sentences with 'While, other believe' and 'On the other believe', which disrupt the natural logical flow. Referencing is also weak, with ambiguous pronouns ('There is lot of that plant species before...'). Although there is an underlying organization with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, the lack of accurate cohesive devices and mechanical referencing places this text firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'problem', 'plant', 'animal', and 'enviroment' (which is also misspelled consistently as 'enviromental' and 'enviroment'). There are numerous word choice and word formation errors, such as 'endagerd' instead of 'endangered', 'flower and furans' instead of 'flora and fauna', 'defforestation', 'vechiels', and 'global warnimg'. The range is quite limited, and attempts at less common vocabulary result in non-standard phrasing and frequent errors that occasionally impede communication, matching the Band 4 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The student struggles with basic sentence structures, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'issues that is cause', 'cause three type... releace'), and tense usage. There is a heavy reliance on simple sentences, and attempts at complex structures are consistently faulty (e.g., 'Aslo , some animal kingdom involved in that which help to keep the enviroment...'). Punctuation is also erratic, with misplaced spaces before commas and periods. Errors are very frequent and frequently distort meaning, corresponding to a Band 4 level.
