Student answer (Band 4.5)

Some people say that the main problem of environmental in our time is the loss of particular species of animals and plants. On the other side some people say that there are more important environmental problems. I think only plants and animals are loss there are not the big issue but on the other there are many problems environmental.

In my experience that old minded people can be think the cause of environmental problems is to loss the plants and many animals species. In the old time they can be true because there are no any machines such as cars, MoterCycle and others engines machines. Therefore they are true.

On the other side today people do not agree the statement of the old people they think the main cause of the environmental pollution is the traffic and the factories because they also be damage the plants, water and animals . Today people think that factories release the black smoke and damage all the living things. For example the big trains and the black engine that can be work on black oil this type of machine make the most air pollution in our world.

In my knowledge both the peoples views are true because in the past there are no any big machines that can be damages the environmental therefore they say the environmental problems are the cause of loss of the particular species of plants and animals. The modern people say the most environmental problems the heavy big machines and black engines.

In my point of views both the peoples are true.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that the loss of specific species is the main environmental problem versus the view that other problems are more important—and provides the writer's own opinion that both perspectives are valid. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive. For instance, the argument relies heavily on vague generalisations, such as 'old minded people can be think the cause of environmental problems is to loss the plants' and the comparison between past and modern machines. While a position is stated, it lacks the depth and extension required for a higher band. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 5 descriptors, as the treatment of the prompt is limited and lacks thorough support.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which shows an attempt at logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs discussing each view, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is lacking because arguments tend to circle back to the same points without clear advancement. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly, such as 'On the other side' and 'In my knowledge'. Referencing is also weak at times, making connections between sentences clumsy. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is faulty. This performance fits the Band 4 descriptor profile, as information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The lexical resource is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms like 'environmental', 'problem', 'machines', and 'true' throughout the text. There are numerous word-choice and word-formation errors, such as 'loss' used as a verb ('plants and animals are loss') and 'MoterCycle' or 'engines machines'. Although the general topic is clear enough that communication is not entirely blocked, the vocabulary is minimally adequate and struggles with precision or collocation. This places the response firmly at Band 4, reflecting basic vocabulary and frequent errors that strain the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay, with a very limited range of structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex structures are almost uniformly faulty, such as 'In my experience that old minded people can be think the cause...' and 'in the past there are no any big machines that can be damages the environmental'. Errors in tense, auxiliary verbs, and prepositions are pervasive and persistent. Although the reader can eventually infer the general meaning, these frequent errors cause significant difficulty and distortion. The grammar reflects the Band 4 level.
