Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both views and provide an opinion, but the response is severely truncated, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('as p'). Furthermore, the word count requirement of 250 words is not met, with the text containing only 194 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is limited and under-developed, particularly in the conclusion. While the essay touches on the importance of biodiversity and alternative environmental problems such as industrial pollution and technology, the incomplete nature of the response restricts it to a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a cut-off conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted appropriately, and basic cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'In my opinion' are used to structure the text. However, the logical progression is hindered by abrupt transitions and the unfinished ending. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for example, 'such prospectives' in the introduction. Overall organization shows some coherence, but the mechanical usage and incomplete development align with a Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'flora and fauna', 'degradation', 'ecosystem', and 'global warming'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'weather' instead of 'whether', 'extinct' instead of 'extinction', 'through light' instead of 'throw light', 'habitates' instead of 'habitats', 'equilibriumin', 'traped', 'bussinesses', 'dtstinction', and 'coloform' (chloroform/chlorofluorocarbons). These frequent lexical inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader, placing this aspect at a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'extinct of some species... are' (subject-verb agreement), 'tasks are also been decline' (passive voice error), 'critics warns' (plural/singular mismatch), and 'loss of animal and plants species are equally important in environment problems' (preposition and agreement errors). Punctuation and spacing issues are also present (e.g., 'Pollination, seeds dispersal'). These errors frequently impede smooth reading, justifying a Band 5.0.
