Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on environmental problems and stating a clear personal opinion in favor of other global issues like industrialisation and global warming. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally hindered by unclear phrasing, such as 'Because of deforestation so many ancient plants and spices are endenger'. While the arguments are relevant, they tend to remain somewhat general and lack fully extended supporting examples. This places the task response at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is arranged into four logical paragraphs representing an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing contrasting views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal relationships between ideas, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Despite both sides present reasonable arguments, i firmly believe'. Paragraphing is used appropriately overall, giving the essay a coherent overall arrangement, which aligns with the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'ecosystem', 'industrialisation', and 'greenhouse effects'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'ongoinng', 'perspactives', 'lattar', 'extiction', 'spice' (for species), 'endenger', 'industrilisation', 'continuaous', 'atmosphear', and 'organisam'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and demonstrate limitations in word choice and control, characteristic of a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in punctuation, article usage, subject-verb agreement, and word forms. Examples include 'It has been observed that, there are an ongoinng debate', 'Both sides offers valid arguments i personally believe', 'because of using electronic utensils and machineray it affects on ozon layer', and capitalization errors. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
