Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, several environmental concerns have got attension of experts and of common people also, leading to an argument between 2 groups which are divided among people who believe that loss of particular species of plants and animals is main issue, whereas on the other hand, people who are concerned regarding other environmental issues, such as pollution, loss of resources, and many more. In my view, a significant amount of attension should be given to every kind of environmental problem, and efforts should be made to find solution for them.

People who are in favour of considering loss of particular floral and fauna species are malorly worried about the loss of biodiversity and the risk of loosing essential species which are crucial for maintaining balance of ecosystem. Furthermore, extinction of such organisms could lead to disturbance in food chain, imposing greater threat on other animals animals and living beings dependent on them. Inspite of such greater threat to biodiversity enlightned through this approach, it fails to focus on fact that other factors such as pollution, overexploitation, over population do equally contribute for harming nature.

As a result, the issues raised by other group, highlighting all important factors which are collectively degrading the natural habitat, fossil fuels, resources, and many more. Moreover, the greedy nature of men is a driving reason in there view, as it leads to overexploitation of resources, clearing forests for urban development, poor resource management, poor waste management contributing as a key factor for rising pollutant levels in food, water, air. In addition, this approach will also create an impact on transforming the efforts made to address such issues.

Therefore, it can be concluded that, the environmental problems of modern days are not just limited to loos of particualr species of plants and animals, as several other governing factors have an equal share in degrading nature and environment. So, efforts should be made to address all of these cons, rather than limiting to loss of species.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the focus on species loss versus broader environmental issues—and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and extended, such as mentioning the disturbance of the food chain and the impact of overexploitation. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise or slightly repeat points regarding general factors like pollution and resource management, placing this essay firmly at Band 6.5. To reach a higher band, the student should develop their supporting arguments with more specific examples rather than broad assertions, ensuring all parts are explored with equal depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points of view. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or faulty, seen in phrases like 'whereas on the other hand, people who are concerned' and 'in there view'. Referencing is not always completely clear, and some sentences feature awkward transitions that disrupt the flow. To achieve a Band 7, the student needs to use cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that inter-sentence links are smoother and more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'biodiversity', 'overexploitation', 'ecosystem', and 'pollutant levels'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'attension' instead of attention, 'malorly' instead of majorly, 'loosing' instead of losing, 'enlightned' instead of enlightened, and 'loose' instead of loss. There is also a grammatical confusion in 'in there view' instead of 'in their view'. While these errors do not seriously impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching a Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several structural errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'leading to an argument between 2 groups which are divided among people who' and 'imposing greater threat on other animals animals and living beings dependent on them.' Punctuation and article usage are also occasionally faulty. Because errors in grammar recur and can cause temporary difficulty for the reader, the response aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors for grammar.
