Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially and does not fully develop the prompt. While both views regarding environmental problems are touched upon, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, lacking sufficient support and extension. For instance, the mention of starving people and plant damage is kept at a superficial level without deeper explanation or clear argumentation. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing 243 words instead of the required 250 words. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their main ideas with more relevant explanations, provide concrete examples, ensure the position is more clearly maintained throughout, and ensure the word count requirement is fully satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organization, attempting to separate different viewpoints into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on basic linkers like 'in addition' and 'on the other hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is abruptly cut off mid-sentence, preventing a proper conclusion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making the logical flow difficult to follow at times. To progress to the next level, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately, ensure smoother transitions between ideas, and structure the conclusion completely.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for discussing general topics. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'lossing' instead of 'loss', 'minirals' instead of 'minerals', and 'deseases' instead of 'diseases'. The attempt to use less common vocabulary results in awkward collocations, such as 'wild life where also animals live'. To improve this score, the writer must expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and use more precise terminology relevant to environmental and social issues.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb forms and tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'It is very appeared', 'how it is increase', and 'environment issues still be one of priority'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also show recurring inaccuracies, such as missing capital letters and spaces around punctuation marks. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to exercise better control over basic sentence grammar, reduce the frequency of errors, and successfully incorporate a wider variety of accurate complex sentence forms.
