Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, environmental problems have become a major concern in many countries. Several people argue that the main environmental issue of recent time is a large loss of particular species of plants and animals. While others think that there are more significant environmental problems. This essay will discuss both views. I believe that the main environment problem can create disaster for special species who born from plants and animals, but the government should attention on others more crucial environmental problems.

To begin with, the main environmental problem such as natural disasters can contribute to destroy of particular species, so natural disasters such as climate changes and storm ruin quickly of specific species. This is because these disasters attack suddenly, and anyone does not know them exact time. For example, when plants and animals born particular species, climate change without alert to people. As a result, plants and animals loss of rare species who are vital for increasing their breed.

On the other hand, some people say that there are more important environmental problems that help to destroy of certain species, and the government should finish them. This is particularly important because more environmental problems such as deforestation and air pollution are a large reason who help to ruin certain species. For instance, people cut different trees for various aims like furniture and fire, and they create air pollution from smog. Consequently, plants and animals do not afford food for special breed, and they loss. So, the government should take an action for deforestation and air pollution.

In conclusion, although main environmental problem is important reason of our time to loss of particular species of animals and plants, the government should also focus on immediate more environmental problems. A balance approach can therefore provide the benefits of environmental problems while ensuring that species have access for secure life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views regarding the loss of species and other environmental problems, and presents a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on natural disasters contributing to the destruction of species in the second paragraph lacks clear elaboration and relies on repetitive phrasing rather than well-supported examples. Similarly, while the third paragraph mentions deforestation and air pollution, the explanation of how these issues impact species is superficial and unclear. The position is stated, but the lack of extended support and occasional lack of clarity place this aspect of the writing at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays some overall organisation with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, establishing a coherent arrangement. However, progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical or repetitive use of cohesive devices, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'This is because' and 'For instance' without smooth transitions. Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, but referencing within the paragraphs is occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun reference in 'who help to ruin certain species' or 'who are vital'. The cohesive framework is functional yet shows weaknesses in logical flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'deforestation', 'air pollution', and 'natural disasters', but these attempts are frequently marred by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form. Examples include 'large loss' instead of 'massive loss', 'environment problem' instead of 'environmental problem', 'special species who born' instead of 'certain species born', and 'plants and animals loss of rare species' instead of 'loss of rare species'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. There are recurrent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of structural and grammatical errors include 'the government should attention on others more crucial' (incorrect verb form and preposition use), 'climate change without alert to people', 'anyone does not know them exact time', and 'access for secure life'. These frequent errors require the reader to slow down, though communication is ultimately maintained.
