Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that extinction of plants and animals species is the main environmental issue of present time, while others argue that rather than this there are several significant issues of nature. This essay discusses both views before presenting a valid perspective.
On the one hand, there are more than one reason why losses of species is becoming main environmental problem. The first and foremost reason is that ecosystem will collapse, if old and important plants and animal species will extinct. To explain it, many animal categories work as a food chain, where plants are also included for herbivores insects or animals. Meanwhile, ecosystem is generally co-related and work together with different plants and animals, to always manage the biodiversity of nature then it is very important to safe our species, which is under endangered. Moreover, losses of rare species may weaken earth's natural balance, if any kind of plant and species will extinct , then it will be harden to recover that again. Thus, it is an ideal to save endanger plants and animals to study about them in future as well.
On the other hand, despite saving the loss of endangered species, there are many more other environmental problems, which are also considered and want attention. The prominent one is water and air pollution, this problem becomes high alerting for individuals. For instance, nowadays 60% of water is polluted and cause harmful diseases like thyroid, asthma and UTI. Therefore, government should spend national funds on this issue and it is also a subsequent development. This will not only helpful for current generation but also for future generation. Furthermore, climate change is an another big problem, which leads to global warming and heat waves, which is generally caused by CO2 emission. Hence, CO2 emission can be reduced and this step could be taken by local authorities by implementing high tax on factories.
In conclusion, although loss of particular species of plants and animals is the main environmental problem because it will weaken earth's natural balance and ecosystem, water or air pollution and climate change are also become an important issue, which should tackle in alert mode because these issues will affect diversity in future. I believe that all environmental problems could examine on serious note.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on whether the loss of species is the main environmental problem and providing a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph attempts to explain how ecosystems work and why species loss matters, the ideas become somewhat repetitive. Similarly, the second body paragraph lists air and water pollution along with climate change, but the supporting examples, such as citing a specific statistic for water pollution and linking it incorrectly to thyroid issues, lack rigorous elaboration and accuracy. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of support places this performance firmly at the mid-level where ideas are relevant yet remain somewhat under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the contrasting viewpoints. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in referencing and transitional phrases like 'climate change is an another big problem'. Furthermore, logical progression within paragraphs occasionally falters due to abrupt shifts between ideas, meeting the requirements of the lower band while successfully demonstrating some organizational elements of the higher level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic arguments about the environment. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'biodiversity', 'co-related', and 'CO2 emission', but these attempts are frequently accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, for example, using 'will extinct' instead of 'will go extinct' or 'become extinct', and 'safe our species' instead of 'save'. Spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable throughout the text, including phrasing like 'high alerting' and 'tackle in alert mode', but they do not severely impede overall communication, reflecting a standard vocabulary range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting multi-clause structures such as conditional and relative clauses. However, there is a persistent presence of grammatical errors and awkward syntax, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('ecosystem is generally co-related'), articles ('the main environmental issue of present time'), and incorrect verb forms ('if any kind of plant and species will extinct'). Punctuation errors and awkward prepositions also occur frequently. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are common enough to restrict the grammatical score, showing a mixture of basic structures with frequent structural awkwardness.
