Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is certainly true that our enviornment is facing many challanges. For this reason it is argued that the main enviornmental issue of our time is the extinction of specific species of plants and animals, While some say there are other important enviornmental issues than this. In my point of view there are several factors behind the downfall of our enviornment.

Firstly, the loss of particular species of plants and animals are due to lack of attention given by the government departments. In Pakistan, departments like PHA, EPS and WWF have been established to look after the enviornment however there are still so much work to do for preserving the specific kinds of plants and animals. Secondly, its the responsibility of the people to protech the extinct species by taking precautionary measure to safeguard the particular species of plants and animals.

On the other hand, there are several other issues that are more important in deteriorating the enviornment such as, indusrtrial waste and cutting-down of trees . The indusrties are not operating as per standard SOP's which means that they are dumping the waste without recycling them in the ground or sometime in the water directly becuase of all of this it damages the enivornment badly. Moreover, Real estate developers keep developing the residential societies by cutting down the trees or even ocuppying the farmer lands. Furthermore, Congestion of automobiles issue is another cherry on the top for these enviornmental damages.

In conclusion, government and the public combine should take steps towards the betterment of the enviornment regardless of whether it is because of extinction of some plants and animals or becuase of its man made issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the loss of specific species and other environmental problems, while also providing an opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding government departments in Pakistan such as PHA, EPS, and WWF merely lists them without explaining how their current actions fail or succeed in preserving species. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding industrial waste and deforestation introduces relevant points like standard operating procedures and real estate development, but these are left superficial rather than thoroughly extended. The position is somewhat present, yet the overall treatment lacks the depth required to fully explore both views.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic level of organisation with the use of standard transitional markers like 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', dividing the text into distinct paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression throughout the piece, and cohesive devices are frequently repetitive or mechanically applied, such as the repetitive use of 'particular species of plants and animals' across multiple sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when pronouns or demonstratives like 'all of this' refer back loosely to preceding clauses without precise anchor points. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow between sentences within paragraphs often feels disjointed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'enviornment', 'challanges', 'indusrtrial', and 'ocuppying'. Word choice and collocations are basic, seen in phrases like 'doing so much work' and 'cherry on the top for these enviornmental damages'. The writer attempts some less common topic-related terminology like 'extinction', 'industrial waste', and 'residential societies', but the persistent spelling and lexical inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher level of precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside poorly executed complex attempts. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'the loss of particular species... are due to', punctuation errors including missing commas and run-on structures, and awkward prepositional phrases like 'in my point of view' and 'in the ground'. While some basic sentences are formed correctly, the frequency of structural errors and faulty complex forms restricts the overall accuracy of the writing.
