Student answer (Band 5.0)

some people say that main cause of environmental problem is the loss of particular species of plants and animals . while some think that there are more important environmental porblems. I greatly agreed with both opinion but according to my knowledge first problem is one of the major problem of the word.

On the first hand , loss of specific animals and important plants can cause different type of pollution such as water , air and sound pollution . in the forest different kinds of animals live when any animals died some bird are born by nature that only ate dead animals and decomposed the body . In this way the air is not pollueted . In the big cities the major problem is trafiic and carbon dioxide .To solve these problem the scientist sttrugled to make high comsuption of carbon's plants to create these these plants many other plants dna are used so in this case many planys are finished from socitey.

On the other hand , other enviormental problems such as urbernization climate changing e.tc. also effect the world badly . These problems effects many underdeveloped countries such Pakistan , India , Bangladesh , Singapor e.t.c. So these problems are not ignored . Many countries , sciencetist and foundations worked together to solve these problems .

In conclusion , these problems are very dangerous for us . We need to work n both problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response sits at this band because it only addresses the task partially. A critical issue is that the minimum length requirement is not met; the student's response contains 226 words, falling 24 words short of the 250-word minimum, noting that 10 words copied directly from the task prompt were excluded from this count. Regarding content, the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding environmental problems and provides a personal opinion, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, the argument that the loss of specific animals prevents air pollution through natural decomposition is scientifically unclear and insufficiently explained. Similarly, the opposing view mentioning urbanization and climate change only lists countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Singapore without extending the points to show how they compare in importance to biodiversity loss.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The organization of the text shows some basic structure with identifiable paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which shows an awareness of essay formatting. However, cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, leading to a mechanical feel. For instance, the transition phrases 'On the first hand' and 'On the other hand' are awkwardly framed, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when pronouns like 'these problems' or 'these things' are used vaguely without solid antecedents. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to ensure that logical links between sentences and paragraphs are smoother and that ideas build upon one another more naturally rather than feeling disjointed.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic points about the environment. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the response, which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. For example, the student writes 'urbernization' instead of urbanization, 'climate changing' instead of climate change, and 'sciencetist' instead of scientist. Other awkward collocations and vocabulary choices, such as 'high comsuption of carbon's plants' or 'planys are finished from socitey', demonstrate a constrained lexical range. To improve, the writer needs to expand their control of word forms and collocations, avoiding direct translations and ensuring that less common vocabulary items are used with greater precision and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Grammatically, the response displays a limited range of structures. While the writer attempts some complex sentences, these attempts are often faulty and accompanied by frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. Issues span across subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation. For instance, sentences often lack necessary capitalization and terminal punctuation or contain run-on structures, such as 'in the forest different kinds of animals live when any animals died some bird are born by nature...'. Verb tenses are also inconsistent, seen in phrases like 'any animals died' and 'birds are born... that only ate'. To progress to a higher band, the writer must improve control over basic sentence boundaries, punctuation, and tense consistency while successfully integrating a wider variety of accurate complex structures.
