Student answer (Band 5.5)
People have different mindsets when it comes to talk about environmental problems. Some believe that the main environmental issue of their time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals, while other argue that there are more essential environmental isues. This essay will discuss both point of views in detail with appropriate examples and in the end I will present my own opinion.
On the one hand, a major environmental problem is the reduction of species of plants and animals. These species include bees which are required for the plants to grow. They also impact ineritance as plants cannot transfer their properties into other plants. Additionally, some animal species like dinasours are no longer exist resulting disappearance of them completely.
On the other hand, there are more environmental issues which includes climate change and pollution. For example, in the recent years people faced deadly earthquakes and inconsistency in the weather. These earthquakes not only destructed the houses, buildings but also caused millions of life loses. Furthermore, weather changes have impacted crops. pollution has caused health issues and introduced numerous diseases. People are inhaling bad quality oxygen. The smoke eliminating from the factories are continuously polluting the environment.
In my opinion, I beleive climate change and pollution issues are worse than aminal and plants species because these are continuously impacting the life of humans, animals, and other living organisms. Countries are facing with harmful earthquakes which are affecting the overall economy of them.
In conclusion, loss of species of plants and animals not only stop the growth but also stop inheritance, climate change affect the fields and crops, pollution reduce the quality of life and good air to breathe. But I beleive these issues are more harmful than losing a particular specie because they destroy the quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views regarding environmental problems and presenting a clear position. However, some ideas are under-developed or inadequately supported. For instance, the discussion on plant and animal loss mentions bees and inheritance, but the explanation remains superficial and relies on weak examples, such as mentioning that dinosaurs no longer exist without linking it effectively to current debates. Furthermore, the point about earthquakes being caused by climate change reveals a confusion of scientific concepts, as earthquakes are geological phenomena rather than direct consequences of climate change. The position is stated throughout, but the reasoning lacks depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response shows a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, introducing each viewpoint, body paragraph, and conclusion appropriately. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The transition phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used to structure the text, but internal referencing and logical progression within paragraphs are occasionally weak. For example, the transition between sentences discussing weather changes, pollution, and health issues in the third paragraph feels abrupt and lacks smooth connective tissue. Paragraphing is present, but the overall progression of ideas could be more seamlessly integrated.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic ideas, but it is limited and marred by noticeable errors in word choice and spelling. Examples of lexical errors include misspelling 'isues', 'dinasours', and 'beleive', as well as awkward phrasing like 'inhaling bad quality oxygen' and 'smoke eliminating from the factories'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'consequence' or 'organism', but these attempts are offset by frequent inaccuracies and a reliance on repetitive, basic descriptive language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding article use, plurals, and prepositions. Examples include 'when it comes to talk' instead of 'talking', 'other argue' instead of 'others', 'life loses' instead of 'losses', and 'Countries are facing with harmful earthquakes' where the preposition 'with' is incorrectly added. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication.
