Student answer (Band 5.5)

People of some countries believe that deforstation , loss of animals and plants are the main issues for enviroment wherease people of some countries believe that there are many other reasons of environmental pollution. From my perspective, i believe that these are the main reasons of environmental problems.

Firstly, it is commonly seen that due to deforestation there is increase in temperature of universe. This is because due to cutting of trees there is increase of global warming gases that affecting our environment. For example, if you see today's world temperature than you will see Earth temperature is increasing significantly and that is not good for our areas.

Secondly, there are a lot of some species that are extincting now. For example, old world sparrows and black crow are ectincting from Pakistan. These species are affecting on food chain of some species that is not good for our environment.

Moreover, pupils of some countries believe that innovation, industrial progress and vehicles are effecting the most our homeland. This is because these inventions are producing problems for our world. For instance, chlorofluorocarbons that come out by refrigerators are affecting whole ozone layer that is causing skin cancer and eye diseases.

To sum up , from overall discussion and my experience, I believe that deforestation and loss of some species particularly animals and plants are the main problems for today's world. We have to take care of species that are extincting for example black crow. If we want to give our generation a safe place to live than we should focus on these problems. The higher state authorities should apply strict rules to solve this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views—the loss of species versus other environmental concerns—and presents a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed, placing the response at this level. For instance, when discussing deforestation, the writer states that Earth's temperature is increasing and 'that is not good for our areas,' which lacks specific support or extension. Similarly, the second body paragraph lists extinct animals like old world sparrows and black crows in Pakistan, but the explanation of their impact on the food chain is overly simplistic. The opposing view regarding industrial progress and vehicles is also introduced but not fully explored. To move higher, each viewpoint needs deeper extension, more precise supporting arguments, and a fully developed line of reasoning throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with recognizable paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing different perspectives, and a concluding summary. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive. For example, transition markers like 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Moreover' are used to structure the text, but the internal links between sentences feel mechanical rather than fluid. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when pronouns like 'these' or 'that' refer back broadly without precise antecedents. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to improve logical progression between sentences and paragraphs, and employ a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices without over-relying on basic sequential markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about the environment. There is an attempt to use less common items, but this results in noticeable errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'deforstation' (spelling), 'enviroment' (spelling), 'wherease' (spelling), 'temperature of universe' (inappropriate collocation), and 'extincting' (incorrect word form). Furthermore, terms like 'global warming gases' and 'black crow' are used repetitively. While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the frequent slips in spelling and word choice prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. To improve, the student must expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to standard collocations, and ensure correct word forms and spelling for academic topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent attempts at complex sentences resulting in grammatical errors. There are noticeable issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'there is increase in temperature,' 'are effecting the most our homeland,' and 'these species are affecting on food chain.' Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences or pronouns with lower-case letters ('i believe'), are also present. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free complex structures, pay closer attention to basic syntactic rules, and improve control over verbs, articles, and prepositions.
