Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few individuals say that the main environmental issue of our time is the loss of distinct species of plants and animals. While, other argue that there are more crucial environmental crisis. According to me, each and every aspect of environmental issues hold equal position and need balanced approach to resolve it. I will discuss both the views in the following paragraph.

Considering the impact of nature in our ecosystem one can definitely say that each and every living organism is important. Our ecosystem need balance to maintain harmony, if it gets imbalanced extinction of certain species has been seen as an adverse effect. Not only it become dangerous to one specific organism but also to the entire ecosystem. Food chain get disturbed resulting in direct or indirect effect on human civilization. For an instance when a particular species get completely eradicate the next organism in food chain get over populated resulting disruption even more.

Although, above reasons makes it important but still there are other important aspects to environment that are equally important. For example Increase in pollution leading to

Climate change is such a huge issue and effects are already being seen. Plastic pollution, air pollution, water pollution all are directly or indirectly creating mazor impact on our environment.

In conclusion, environment problems be it deforestation, haunting or pollution are all caused by human activities and are equally important and need equal emphasis to resolve the issue for future generation. Henceforth according to me both the views are equally important and need balanced approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views—that the loss of specific species is the main environmental issue, and that other crises are more crucial—alongside a personal opinion. However, the development of these ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, while the writer mentions the ecosystem and food chains, the explanation lacks depth and specific supporting examples, using a vague reference ('For an instance when a particular species get completely eradicate'). The position is discernible at the end, but the overall treatment of the arguments is partial and lacks the thorough extension required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident in the division into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing the different views, and a conclusion. However, the response lacks clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, such as starting a sentence with 'While, other argue' or 'Although, above reasons makes it important'. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing and logical transitions between sentences are frequently mechanical and disjointed, resulting in a choppy flow that struggles to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'extinction', 'ecosystem', and 'deforestation', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice. Examples include 'maze' instead of 'major', 'haunting' instead of 'hunting', 'eradicate' instead of 'eradicated', and 'crisis' used as a plural or singular mismatch ('environmental crisis'). These lexical slips and spelling errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, though communication of the overall message is still achieved.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns while attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Our ecosystem need', 'Food chain get', 'Each and every aspect... hold'), pluralisation, and missing articles (e.g., 'effects are already being seen', 'need balanced approach'). Punctuation and preposition usage within grammatical patterns also show frequent inaccuracies. These errors are recurrent and can cause some difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
