Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student mentions both views—loss of flora and fauna versus other major issues like global warming and pollution—and attempts to give an opinion, the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, in the second paragraph, the point about infrastructure and deforestation is introduced with an example in Manipur, but it lacks sufficient extension and explanation. The writer's position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay, and the conclusion merely restates the prompt elements without offering a well-synthesized final perspective. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to explore both perspectives with fully extended ideas, clearer supporting arguments, and a more robust overall position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but transitions between and within paragraphs feel disjointed or mechanical, such as the abrupt shift using 'Moving ahead,' in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are sometimes used inaccurately or repetitively, for instance with frequent use of 'Furthermore' and 'For instance,' without establishing smooth logical bridges between thoughts. Referencing can also be unclear, making it occasionally difficult to follow the logical flow of arguments. To improve, the writer should ensure that ideas logically build upon one another and that cohesive devices connect sentences and paragraphs in a more natural and accurate manner.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about the environment, such as 'deforestation,' 'pollution,' and 'glacier collapse.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as 'few individual say,' 'decline in the species of plants and animal,' and 'pivotal problems as compares to.' Spelling and lexical errors occur frequently enough to occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, for example with awkward phrasing like 'cause of atmosphere change.' To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, utilize less common vocabulary with greater precision, and pay closer attention to correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or attempted complex sentences that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'plants and animals plays' and 'the flood has came,' incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors such as missing spaces before punctuation marks. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and distraction for the reader. To progress to the next level, the student needs to produce a greater variety of complex structures with improved accuracy, ensuring that basic agreements, verb tenses, and sentence boundaries are controlled much more reliably.
