Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern era, environmental protection has become increasingly important. in many developed and developing countries, a substantial amount of attention s devoted to protecting the natural environment, as it often requires various resources and strategies, such as wildlife conservation, pollulation control, environmental laws, and so on. Nowadays, many people believe that the loss of certain species of plants and animals is the main ecological challenges of our time, while others consider other environmental issues is more important. Therefore, this essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe that other environmental problems are more significant.

Naturally, the loss of particular species of plants and animals is considered essential to address because it can have serious effects on the natural ecosystem, creating valuable opportunities for maintaining environmental balance. Moreover, it can significantly affect the wider environment, as the disappearance of one species may disturb food chains and biodiversity. Since plants and animals play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystem, strong support for wildlife protection is imperative to enhance environmental stability. For example, the disapperence of bees could reduce pollination, which may negatively affect the growth of many crops. In nations such as Australia and Brazil, for instance, wildlife conservation programmes have emerged as an effective model for protecting biodiversity for their ecosystems. Therefore, it is evident that the loss of particular species can be a serious environmental problem.

On the other hand, other environmental issues, such as air pollution, climate change, deforestation, and water pollution, may create even greater social and economic challenges. Additonally, these problems can directly affect human health, living conditions, and the global climate. While the loss of species is certainly concerning, these wider einvironmental issues can often have a more immediate and widespread impact on both humans and nature. For instance, severe air pollution in large cities can cause respiratory disease, while climate change can lead extreme weather and rising sea levels. From social, economic, and environmental perspectives, pollution and climate change can have a significant impact on people and ecosystems worldwide. Hance, i belive that although the loss of particular species is an important environmental concern, other problems such as climate change and pollution are more serious overall.

In conclusion, the loss of certain plants and animals can be seriously damage biodiversity and natural ecosystem, while problems such as climate change and pollution can have a broader impact on both humans and the environment. Thus, although protecting endangered species is essential, I firmly believe that greater attention should given to wider environmental problems for betterment of both individuals and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on environmental problems and clearly stating a personal position in the introduction and conclusion. The length requirement is fully met. Ideas are generally relevant, but some sections are slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the arguments surrounding the loss of biodiversity are introduced well, but the supporting examples, such as the mention of bees and conservation programmes in Australia and Brazil, could have been elaborated further to show their broader systemic consequences. Similarly, the counter-arguments regarding climate change and pollution are mentioned effectively but remain somewhat generalized. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all ideas more thoroughly throughout the body paragraphs without over-generalising.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, with each body paragraph starting with a clear topic sentence. Cohesive devices are employed adequately to connect ideas, such as "Moreover," "On the other hand," and "In conclusion." However, cohesion occasionally feels slightly mechanical or formulaic, and referencing could be smoother in places. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive relationships more naturally and flexibly, ensuring that transitions between sentences and paragraphs flow effortlessly without relying on standard connective phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as "biodiversity," "conservation programmes," and "respiratory disease." However, there are notable spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies that restrict the score, including "pollulation" instead of pollution, "disapperence" instead of disappearance, and "einvironmental" instead of environmental. Additionally, minor slips in word form and collocation appear, such as "can be seriously damage" instead of cause serious damage, and the informal lowercase "i belive" and "Hance" in the third paragraph. To improve this score, the writer must expand the range of vocabulary, improve precision in word choice and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses with varying success. There are some grammatical errors and punctuation issues present, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement and article usage slips, such as "other environmental issues is more important" instead of are, and "attention should given" instead of should be given. Furthermore, noun group structures and prepositional patterns occasionally falter. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate finer control over verb forms, voice, and agreement.
